Gua Sha is a type of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) technique. The Gua Sha method is used to address tightness and restrictions in the muscle and fascia and improve joint range of motion. It involves repeated pressured strokes over lubricated skin with a smooth-edged tool such as jade, soapstone or ceramic spoon. The pressure of strokes is according to clients' tolerance and constitution. It’s common to have some redness in the area of treatment for 2 -4 days.
Gua Sha is a safe, simple and effective traditional Chinese treatment for many acute and chronic issues including but not limited to: headaches, sinus pressure, injury, scar tissue, muscle, and joint pain.
Cupping is another effective ancient form of therapy that uses special cups to create a suction or negative compression that helps to increase blood flow, relaxes tension in the muscle and helps to reduce pain by softening restrictions in the soft tissue.
